pakisstaani:

on why I fear declarations of love from men //

they fall in love with women the way they fall in love with the ocean. they love the peaceful calm but no one remembers that the same ocean with the clear shallow blue is the same ocean that holds centuries of undiscovered secrets in its sweeping depths. when someone exclaims their love for the ocean they are never talking about the part of the ocean that the sun does not reach. it is the same way with women. when men express love they are almost never expressing love for the whole. they are expressing love for the pieces that they admire and when you make a mistake they will say you are a liar. when you resemble a human they will say you deceived them. but it’s not your fault they only chose to explore the place from which they could reap fruit. everything else, every part of you that is not the luminous side of the moon is nothing but an annoyance to them. they love roses from afar but they become frustrated when they finally get close enough to touch them only to discover that there are thorns. this is not love. I am not yours to idolize.
